August Marks the Celebration of Buwan ng Wika

“Our many tongues speak volumes” indeed as another successful celebration of Buwan ng Wika was held on August 31, 2022 at the Colegio de San Pedro–Recoletos gymnasium, which reminds us to pay tribute to the Philippine languages that define our roots.

The month of August celebrates not only our national language, Tagalog, but also the many other Filipino dialects that distinguish our unique culture. This month’s occasion highlighted the theme “Filipino at mga Katutubong Wika: Kasangkapan sa Pagtuklas at Paglikha.” The students expressed their love for our native land by attending the event wearing their Philippine national costumes. A program was held in the morning in search for the Lakan and Lakambini 2022. Representatives for each year level showed off their stunning and creative national costumes. The Lakans and Lakambinis were then serenaded by the participants of the harana and duet singing contest.

The second portion of the celebration was called “Pista sa Nayon,” which depicts how grand fiestas and celebrations are done in the Philippine setting. A “sayawang bayan” was also set up to add fun to the occasion where everyone danced to the music. Students and teachers who experienced the activity not only felt enjoyed but also learned the importance and the value of the Wikang Filipino and its culture.
